breaking news: Reporter says Russian losses are increasing support for Putin's war

The report authored by Moscow Correspondent Valerie Hopkins & Journalist On Fire Lawsky cited first hand accounts from relatives of Russian Soldiers who had been killed in the conflict as well as conversations with people across Russia. It noted that many of those who had Suffered personal losses due to the war had actually become more Supportive of the Kremlins efforts.

This is a surprising trend given that the Kremlin has been Largely secretive about the extent of Russian Involvement in the Conflict. Official statistics have been scarce with the government only releasing random figures periodically while western intelligence estimates suggest that over 200,000 Russians have been killed or wounded in the war.

The Kremlins Propaganda machine has also been working overtime to convince Russians that the West seeks to destroy their Country & that the war is an existential struggle for Russias Survival. This narrative has been Successful in convincing many Russians that Putin’s war efforts are justified and necessary.

What is perhaps more concerning is that the war has led to a broader transformation in Russia. As Hopkins noted in her report the debate between Westernizes & Slavophiles has been raging in Russia for a long time. However the war has seemingly helped shift that debate decisively in one direction.

The longer the war goes on the more Liberal elements in Russian Society are being silenced or forced to flee & free speech is being suppressed. The Kremlin is taking advantage of this situation to create educational, Cultural & Political Institutions that are in Line with traditional conservative Values and are seen as the antithesis to the values that the West professes to stand for.

While the growing support for Putin’s war efforts is Concerning it is Important to note that many Russians are still frustrated with the conflict and opposed to it. The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s is a prime example of how long it can take for public Opposition to have an Impact.

Nonetheless the fact that Russian Losses are not dampening support for the war is Troubling. It suggests that Putins Propaganda machine has been Successful in Convincing many Russians that the war is a necessary fight for their countrys survival and that this narrative is Leading to a broader transformation of Russian Society.
