The video, posted by TikTok user Kellie (@ambryrae), shows the hostess explaining to a customer that a particular section of the restaurant is closed and cannot be used, but the customer insists on sitting there anyway.

In the overlay text, Kellie writes, “Asking a guest who’s gonna serve them, after they point out tables in a closed section bc they’re too good to wait for 10 minutes.” She then proceeds to offer the customer her manager card, codes and keys, sarcastically suggesting that they run the restaurant.

Kellie’s video struck a chord with viewers who shared similar experiences with clueless customers who disregard the rules of a closed section. One user wrote, “Or when they resit themselves in a section and tell no one and then wanna throw a tantrum because they’ve been sitting for 15 mins.” Another user shared, “Walking a guy to his table.. ‘I’ll just take this one’ sorry sir I don’t have a server for this table. Continues to sit anyways.”

The video highlights a common frustration among restaurant staff, who are often forced to close sections due to labor shortages or lack of resources. According to a 2022 report by Presto, 86% of restaurants have had to close sections due to labor shortages. In January 2023, about 450,000 food service positions were still unfilled, according to Toast.
