Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer reiterates support for Northern Ireland agreement

In a recent statement The Leader Of The UK’s Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer reiterated his support for the Northern Ireland Protocol Stating that it is a Crucial element of the Brexit deal that must be Upheld.

The Protocol was designed to prevent a hard border between Northern Ireland & The Republic of Ireland by keeping Northern Ireland in the EUs single market for Goods. However its Implementation has Faced Several Challenges Leading to tension & unrest in the region.

Sir Keir’s statement comes amidst calls from some members of his party to renegotiate the Protocol or scrap it Altogether. However the Labour Leader Maintains that the Protocol is necessary to protect the Good Friday Agreement & Maintain peace in the region.

“We must ensure that the Protocol is fully Implemented and that any issues or complaints be addressed through the joint committee and other appropriate methods.” Sir Keir said in a statement.

He went on to say that any attempts to undermine the Protocol or Create a hard border in Ireland would be “Reckless & Damaging” & urged the government to work with the EU to find practical Solutions to the Issues that have Arisen.

Sir Keir’s Support for the Protocol is in line with his party’s position which has been Consistent since the Brexit Negotiations Began. The Labour Party has consistently advocated for a Brexit deal that protects jobs workers rights & the Good Friday Agreement.

However the issue of the Northern Ireland Protocol has been a Contentious One with some members of the party calling for it to be renegotiated or scrapped. Sir Keir’s statement is an attempt to clarify the party’s Position & Reinforce its Commitment to the Protocol.
