Al Roker: health update
TODAY show anchor Al Roker shares an update on his health after returning home from a month-long hospitalization for a blood clot.
The 68-year-old meteorologist shared on Instagram that he was “grateful to be well enough” to celebrate Christmas with his family while he recuperates at home.
Roker does not plan to return today as he focuses on regaining his strength.

There were lots of well wishes and holiday wishes for today’s anchor as well. “Today miss you all. Wishing you a full recovery. ” One fan commented, while another wrote, “So glad you repaired Al. Merry Christmas and looking forward to seeing you again today in the New Year!! Curse the slow and steady nation!!”
Roker returned home after four weeks in the hospital, Earlier this month. He was first hospitalized in late November for blood clots in his legs and lungs and was released around Thanksgiving to celebrate with his family — He had to return to the hospital within 24 hours of release due to complications. Unfortunately, this is forced the anchor to miss the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, as well as the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting.
Thankfully, she was able to return home on December 8 just in time to prepare for Christmas, taking to Instagram to share the good news.

“Home! Family, friends, medical people, @todayshow family and so incredibly grateful for all your thoughts and prayers,” Roker wrote at the time, along with a photo of himself in his family’s kitchen, together with his wife and daughter.
Of course, Roker has had no shortage of support from his fans and colleagues on his road to recovery. The TODAY crew and cast including Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie even made sure to bring Roker some festive holiday cheer to her home last week, surprising the weather anchor by gathering on her doorstep to sing Christmas carols.

Roker also appeared on TODAY last week via a virtual video call to share an update on his health with his co-stars and viewers, admitting that his recent health struggles have been a difficult time for him—but that an outpouring of support and love has helped lift his spirits as he ok
“Listen, it’s been a hard slog. Roker said I’m not going to deny it. It’s the hardest so far….It gives you a deep sense of gratitude for this prayer and thanksgiving. I am a very lucky person.
As for when he will return, he shared that he is not yet able to resume his duties. On the NBC morning show as he is still focusing on regaining his strength.
It’s just a certain amount of weakness. He does physical therapy every day, and occupational therapy. he just wanted to get his strength back.
We hope to see Roker back on the Today show very soon—but in the meantime, we wish him a speedy recovery!
